If you think Singapore is all about being green and clean, think again. No doubt we're pretty high up there in terms of hygiene, but beneath the behemoth structures and tourist spots (traps), there is another side to Singapore that one should really experience instead of waving at some bored monkey in the Singapore Zoo or sashaying down the artificial beaches in Sentosa.
Just like how there are ghettos in Detroit, the shantytowns in Brazil and the zinc-roofed houses in Bangkok, we have HDB flats. 80% of the population are stuck in one, due to the scarcity of land here. If we can't grow horizontally, we go vertical.
Apart from the many HDB estates here, some points of interests include old-world shops selling knick-knacks like tin hotwater flasks which my grandmother swears by, as well as barber shops with bent barbers who'd clean your ears for you for free.
I am planning to bring this fresh perspective to travellers who are sick of the usual options. For a small fee ( i am looking at USD$15-20 ), i will provide the transportation as well as dinner or lunch at a recommended hawker centre ( trust me we have the yummiest food here ) as well as a guided tour to no less than 5 places. Plans are still underway but do email me at fionachenxinyi@gmail.com should you have any enquiries !! =)
Cheers!
Fiona
